Don Pitts

Music Program,

Don Pitts has more than 25 years of experience in the music and entertainment industry, community outreach, event planning, marketing and management. His career has been devoted to music, and heís held numerous positions in various aspects of the industry.

Donís career includes sixteen years in the Entertainment Relations Division with Gibson Guitar. During his tenure, he helped organize many live music performances and recording sessions, secured product placements for TV, video and motion picture advertisements, and initiated many special events and marketing opportunities on a national level. He developed relationships with premiere talent spanning countless music and entertainment genres.

In 2009, Don was named the Manager of the Music & Entertainment Division, housed within the Economic Development Department at the City of Austin.

Don is a member of the National Association for Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), heís served on the board of Governors for The Recording Academy, Texas Chapter and has devoted much of his time to a number of organizations that work to enhance the quality of the Austin music/musician experience including: Austin Music Commission, SIMS Foundation, Austin Music Foundation, and more.

Music & Entertainment Division
The Music & Entertainment Division is an economic development accelerator and centralized resource center for Austinís music industry, and an active community partner for Austinís citizens, community groups, and neighborhoods.

The Music & Entertainment Division is highly engaged in developing and executing initiatives that help accelerate the growth of the music and entertainment industry infrastructure by focusing on job creation, talent export, trade development, and industry revenue growth.

Some initiatives are operated by Division staff, however the office also partners with both private industry and nonprofit entities, which allows the City to extend its reach and amplify the impact of its annual budget dollars. This public-private partner model has had substantial success in creating tangible and measurable economic development benefits for the entertainment industries and the community.

In addition to its economic development initiatives the Music Division also serves in a regulatory role and regularly assists music venues with the City-required permit process, and works closely with both large and small festivals on issues related to temporary event permits and other requested City resources for holding those events.
